The Mitchell Area Historical Society is a non-profit (501c3) organization dedicated to the collection and preservation of materials and artifacts concerning the history of the local area. MAHS has been organized for educational, cultural and historic purposes.
MAHS collects historic photographs, some of which are published in the Daily Republic under the heading of Back in Time. Some have also been published under Then and Now, this compares old photographs with more recent ones. Mitchell Photos contain seemingly random photos from Mitchell. MAHS has old newspapers, maps, photographs, city directories, books, files and many, many other items in its collection.
The Mitchell Area Historical Society Programs are held at the Carnegie Resource Center on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Check the events calendar for our program schedule. These programs are open to the public. Past programs are recorded and available for purchase at the Carnegie Resource Center.
The Mitchell Area Historical Society Business Operations meetings are held on the Third Monday of the month at Carnegie Resource Center, 119 W Third Ave. at 7:00 p.m.
